The love of the Game [Park City Tournament]

DSC_5656a

Leo the Lion from REAL with our soccer lovin’ girls

Sophie and Sage are known around here as the Sparta Twins, the Avalanche girls, or the soccer twins…  Such natural athletes and right at home on the field, parents often tell me how much they enjoy watching them play.  They give it their all as they practice twice a week, with games on the week-ends, they love it!  They’ve made great friends and have learned a lot about team playing- playing your position, passing the ball, talk (call for the ball when open), along with improving individual skills...

great foot work to win the ball (Sophie)

they may be the smallest on the team, but it seems to work to their advantage, they’re so fast with great footwork, and not intimidated a bit by the bigger kids

Limber Sage, I love how she plays with her whole body.  She has such strength in her legs, although she’s a pussycat off the field.

Sophie, great form, she reads the ball so well

Sage, calling for the ball, great leadership skills on the field.

Sophie (right), Sage (middle), and their good friend Sav (left), read each other and play so well together to make the goals.  They’re also happy with a good goalie and strong defenders. They won 2 out of 3 in the Park City Tournament.

I do say little prayers often that they won’t get hurt or get a concussion (Sage got hit hard in the head with the ball a couple months back, knocked her over but she got right up).  The older they get, the more intense it gets.

Water break at half time, we were short some players so they didn’t get much of a break during the game.

It was nice playing in beautiful Park City, although over 7000 feet, it got hot.  This was their last game together with Allie, they’ll miss those who didn’t make the new team :(.

With their awesome coach, Allie (she played for San Diego U).  Telling me how much she loves our girls and how great they were to coach, they’ll miss her too!

Windy hair day :).

My friend gave out these cute awards…  Sage- “the player you shouldn’t underestimate, she can kick out of this orbit!”  Sophie- “the player who Skor’s!  Not only did she get a hat-trick this season, but the only one who has scored two points against the number 1 team.”  Thanks Leslie!

You can say I’m a soccer mom, I’ve really enjoyed watching their games and seeing them improve as a team.  Don’t worry, I’m not the obnoxious type, I don’t eat, drink, and sleep soccer, like the mom that rings the cowbell every time her team scores (anyone want to sit by her?), or the mom who wasn’t happy about losing to us yesterday yelling commands at her daughter- “Don’t kick the ball and watch the other girls (my girls) fall on their a**, real classy lady, it takes all types…  But for the most part, it’s pretty professional with good sportsmanship, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the parents and cheering our girls on.

Quite the athletes- they made it!

If  it has anything to do with a ball, or sports, Sophie and Sage are into it.  Basketball, kickball, tennis, biking, swimming…  but soccer is their all time favorite, they even sleep in soccer shorts.   They were on two soccer teams this year (long story, but it worked out great, phew)…

Scan 2The Red Dragons

this was a fun team.  They may be one of the smallest on the field, but don’t let that fool you, they really stand out.  The coaches wife said the coach wanted to take them home, so impressed with them & their skills, and their cuteness of course.  He chuckled each time they made a goal with their cool, matter-of-fact look on their face like “that was easy”.  They are such naturals, kick it right with such power,  play positions, don’t steal the ball from their teammates or throw elbows like some do, and have good sportsmanship.  It is a darling team and they made many new friends.  Red Dragons won all but one game ;)  Go Red Dragons!

Green dragons Sage

Green dragons Sophie and the Green Dragons (hmmm, wonder who made up the names :)

“Peace, love, rock the field.  Peace, peace, love, love, rock the field!”  was the cute cheer this team cheered each week.  This is their 3rd and last year playing on this awesome team (I think they only lost once or twice in 3 years),  they learned a lot on this team- playing positions, great form, teamwork, they’ll miss it and their friends, but both girls made the Sparta Premier team.  They are so excited!  another girl from this team made it too :). woohoo S & S!

I am happy for them, it’s not an easy team to make.  They started training last week and it should be good, but I’m concerned at some of the tactics, they have a  pretty controlling coach.  Their practices are almost 2 hours long, luckily only twice a week right now.  So far they like it and want to go for it.  So Sparta it is, they have their first tournaments in Park City in Aug.

Speaking of sports, this was another amazing team that Trevor (#17) was on- undefeatable! (only one in the league that didn’t lose).  But the best part is how the boys played together and their amazing coach.  He was professional and great with the boys, a step above of the rest.  He even calmed the parents when the score was close.  Good job boys, great season!!

Saturdays- Sweet…

A nice break from work and school on the week-end and I become my children’s, and their teams, biggest cheerleader.  Don’t worry, not the loud obnoxious type.DSC01269halftime snacks and soccer team photos, great game Pink Panthers!

DSC01256Aren’t they cute?  Then off to Trevor’s football game

DSC01281 Go Diggers, Go 15!  This is Trevor’s first year playing tackle, he loves it- yikes  He’s learning a lot and has come a long way, great coaches.

DSC01294Playing hard, hungry for In-N-Out Burger for lunch

DSC_0102 Then that evening, Josh is in another fun entertaining play (top-middle), Broadway Kidz- Magic

DSC_0103 What an awesome show, performing in an outdoor amphitheater this year.  I enjoy watching Josh on stage, he’s so comfortable, a natural.  They’ve worked hard these last couple of months rehearsing, the whole group did great!  (Excuse the blurry picture, I took it from further back, but wanted the dancing shot).  The girls enjoyed it too and were glued.  When it was over, they said “It’s over already?”  I think they’re ready to audition next year.  We saw it three times.

As a mom, I can’t think of a better way to spend my Saturdays.  So what are your favorite Saturday activities?
